ANIMAL FEED INDUSTRY

Equipment for the animal feed industry

A feed mill stands or falls on consistency. The same pellet quality is expected shift after shift, without downtime and without deviation from the formulation. Amandus Kahl supplies equipment for the whole line: from raw material intake and grinding, through dosing, mixing, conditioning and pelleting, to drying, cooling and packing of the finished product.

PROCESS

The complete line, step by step

Every step in the line determines what is possible in the next one. That is why we select the equipment according to the formulation and the raw material you work with, and not the other way round.

  1. 1

    Raw material intake and storage

Silos, conveyors and dosing systems for bulk materials.

  2. 2

    Grinding

The Kahl roller mill grinds through a combination of friction, cutting and compression, with the lowest possible share of fines.

  3. 3

    Dosing and mixing

Dosing screws and mixers ensure that every batch matches the formulation.

  4. 4

    Conditioning and hygienisation

Hydrothermal units and the expander work at 70–140 °C with a controlled retention time, for salmonella elimination and better digestibility.

  5. 5

    Pelleting

Kahl flat die presses, in several types according to the capacity for this branch. Material that has passed the expander takes up more liquid and gives a harder pellet.

  6. 6

    Drying and cooling

Belt-type channel dryers and coolers, modular designs from 2 to 350 m² of working area.

  7. 7

    Crumbling and classification

A crumbler with toothed rolls and an adjustable gap, for the required particle size without pelleting again.

  8. 8

    Packing and dispatch

Weighing, bagging or bulk dispatch, according to how you deliver to the end customer.

EQUIPMENT

What we supply for this branch

Kahl roller mill for grain cracking, two-stage design

Roller mill and cracker

Two rolls at different speeds give a cutting effect instead of crushing, so considerably fewer fines remain. The gap is adjusted during operation, which allows a quick change of particle size when the formulation changes.

Kahl expander with annular gap installed in an animal feed line

Expander with annular gap

It allows the use of components that are difficult to pellet, the addition of larger amounts of liquids and fats, and hygienic treatment with salmonella elimination. Pellets made from expandate take up more liquid than traditionally produced ones.

Kahl flat die pellet mill in operation

Flat die pellet mills

The press forms the prepared mash into pellets of a defined diameter and hardness. Kahl builds flat die presses in 16 sizes, covering the animal feed industry. Pellet quality depends as much on the preparation before the press as on the press itself. That is why we always choose the pellet mill together with the conditioning.

Kahl belt-type channel dryer and cooler

Belt dryers and coolers

A modular design means that units are joined together and extended later as capacity grows. More than 1,000 Kahl belt dryers and coolers are in operation worldwide today.

Alongside the above we also supply extruders with a hydraulically adjustable die (no blockages and with quick tool changes), hydrothermal sterilisers in the VarioPlus, MKPlus and RetentionPlus versions, and dosing screws, mixers and conditioners.
