Belt dryers and coolers
A pellet leaving the press is hot and moist. Without proper cooling it breaks, and without drying it cannot be stored. Kahl belt units cover both processes, in a modular design from 2 to 350 m² of working area. More than 1,000 of them are in operation worldwide today.
One machine, four ways of operating
Cooling and drying are carried out on the cross-flow or counter-flow principle, depending on the number of belts. The mode is selected according to the moisture of the incoming product and the required outlet temperature.
Cooling
Works through two physical processes. Convection exchanges heat between the product and the air, while evaporation removes water. For all products that must be brought down to a low storage temperature, such as concentrate pellets, expanded products, dried beet pulp, plastic waste and graphite.
Drying
Warm air, heated directly or indirectly up to 200 °C, passes through one or more layers of product from above or below. For products with high moisture that may leave warm, such as cat litter, coal briquettes, filter sludge and metal oxides.
Drying and cooling together
Both processes in a single unit, but operating independently. For products with high moisture that must be brought down to a low temperature, such as expandate, extrudates, hydrothermally treated products and gypsum from flue gas desulphurisation.
With air recirculation
Part of the air is returned to the process, which reduces emissions and heat losses. The share is set individually. The reduced process speed protects sensitive products, shrimp feed and sewage sludge.
